About Company
Purple Backyard is a Mumbai-based interior design and spatial design studio founded by designer Kumpal Vaid in 2011. The practice is dedicated to creating immersive environments that combine thoughtful storytelling, functionality, and refined aesthetics. Rather than following a fixed design style, the studio develops each project through a collaborative and research-driven process, ensuring every space reflects the personality, aspirations, and lifestyle of its users. The firm's philosophy centers on adding context and character to every project while maintaining a strong connection to craftsmanship and material authenticity.
The studio provides comprehensive interior design, design-and-build, spatial consulting, styling, visual merchandising, colour consultation, and bespoke furniture design services. Its portfolio includes luxury residences, holiday homes, workplaces, hospitality venues, retail environments, and lifestyle spaces. Purple Backyard manages projects from concept development and space planning through material selection, execution, custom furniture, lighting, and final styling, delivering an integrated design experience.
A distinguishing aspect of the firm's work is its close collaboration with artisans, craftspeople, and specialist vendors from across India. By combining handcrafted elements with contemporary design principles, the studio creates highly personalized interiors that balance creativity, comfort, and functionality. In 2023, Purple Backyard expanded its creative practice through PB Home, focusing on curated furniture, lighting, art, and collectible design pieces that complement its architectural projects.
With a multidisciplinary team and a client-focused approach, Purple Backyard continues to deliver distinctive residential and commercial interiors that emphasize originality, attention to detail, and timeless design. Its commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and collaborative design has established the studio as a respected name in India's interior design industry
